Repairing vs. Replacing

If we were talking about a $10 runner purchased at your local store, then the easiest and even most cost-efficient option would be to replace the rug. We’re talking about oriental rugs, however, and these are not cheap pieces. They can range anywhere from $50 for a very small one, all the way up to $5,000 for a high-quality large rug. Obviously, it is much more cost efficient to repair the rug at a tenth of the price of replacing one.

Then there is the sentimental value often associated with these rugs. They are often passed down through the generations, or at the very least were a significant purchase made for your home. Authentic pieces are woven by hand over the course of many months. This means that no two authentic rugs are the same. Even replicas would be just slightly different if you were to pay close attention. This is yet another reason oriental rug repair is a better option.

There is one time when it is better to replace your rug over repairing it. Sometimes things damage the rug to the point where repair may be impossible. While this is rare, and it would have to be extreme damage, it is a possibility.
